Pastor's Corner

The Works of Mercy Team

My Dear Friends in Christ:

As I mentioned in my homily, I would like to assemble a small team of parishioners who would be willing to serve on a "Works of Mercy Team." I see the work of the team and I as encompassing the following steps:

!)  Crafting a vision and strategy for how our parish will live and perform the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy.
2) Communicating the vision, strategy and opportunities for Works of Mercy to our Parish.
3) Organizing opportunities for Works of Mercy for our parish and neighborhood.
4) Recruiting volunteers interested in performing the Works of Mercy in our Parish and neighborhood.
5) Executing Works of Mercy opportunities and projects in our parish and neighborhood.

The opportunities and projects would be consistent with the tradition Works of Mercy according to our Catholic tradition this:

Corporal Works of Mercy  - Spiritual Works of Mercy
Feed the Hungry – Admonish Sinners
Give Drink to the Thirsty – Instruct the Ignorant
Clothe the Naked – Counsel the Doubtful
Shelter the Homeless – Comfort the Afflicted
Visit those in Prison – Bear Wrongs Patiently
Comfort the Sick – Forgive Offenses
Bury the Dead – Pray for the Living and the Dead

As some of you may know, our parish already performs some works of mercy. We have a St. Vincent de Paul Society. We have a group of volunteers who cooks meals for funeral  luncheons. We have a sewing guild that sews blankets for seriously ill children. The fine work of the Knights of Columbus and Boy Scout Troup 19 also come to mind.

If you are interested in learning more about the team, please contact the parish office.

Yours in Christ,

Fr. Andrew
